Costa Rica – The land of Sloths
Costa Rica is a unique blend of nature and civilisation. In this abundance of nature, a commonly found mammal is the sloth. Some may call them lazy but I like to think of them as being graceful.
During our two weeks in Costa Rica we saw about ten different sloths. Our first week on the Pacific coast we did not see any at all and I was coming to the conclusion that perhaps it was a myth to see them casually. However, on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, we saw about 10 different sloths in a short period of time. The trick is to know the type of trees they are typically found in. Plus they are not the easiest to spot but don’t lose hope. Once you spot your first one, the rest magically become visible.
Interesting fact: About once a week the sloth leaves the trees to defecate in the ground.
Below are some of my favourite pictures of them from my trip.
